The shrine is located at the foot of Mount Kumichiji, west of the village of Tokashiki, and is known locally as Tonouchi Ko(Tonchigwah)It is also called

Originally, it was a worship place to enshrine the noro (celebrant), a female priestess in the Ryukyuan faith who presided over the local rituals and managed the Utaki.
